Baidu “10-Billion-Yuan Project” settled in Shunde Park of Foshan High-tech Zone

On September 2, the People’s Government of Shunde District and Baidu (China) Co., Ltd. have officially signed a project investment cooperation initiativewhich marked the settlement of Baidu Cloud Computing (Shunde) Center Project with a total investment of 10 billion Yuan. The project was settled in Shunde Park of Foshan High-tech Zone with the server installation scale reaching 200,000 sets. Guo Wenhai, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Foshan Municipal Committee and Secretary of the CPC Shunde District Committee, Zhao Hai, Deputy Mayor of Foshan and other municipal leaders, and Pan Dongsheng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Foshan High-tech Zone Working Committee and Director of the Management Committee, attended the signing ceremony.

The settlement of the 10-billion-yuan project in the high-tech zone

In recent years, Foshan High-tech Zone has continuously distributed the industrial Internet industry to improvethe scientific and technological competitiveness in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This time, Baidu will build an artificial intelligence cloud computing industrial base in Shunde District and respectively invest two cloud computing centers in Shunde High-tech Zone and the third phase of Changxing Industrial Park in Jun’an Town, Shunde District, with a total investment of 10 billion yuan and 200,000 sets of server installation.

After the completion of the project, the data centerwill mainly carry more than 20 Baidu products with more than 100 million users, such as search engine, map, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, unmanned cars, Internet industry development, and high-performance computing platforms for more than 1 million enterprise customers. What’s more, it will meet the needs of Baidu’s business development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and become an important support for Baidu to expand the layout and business development in the Greater Bay Area.

It is reported that the project will adopt Baidu’s fourth-generation leading IDC infrastructure, with ultra-large neural networks, ultra-large-scale high-performance computing clusters, as well as trillion-level search data, 10 billion-level positioning data, and 10 billion image and video data. Internally, it supports search engine, Baidu Brain, Baidu Smart Cloud, Apollo, map, mini programs and other services, while externally, it can empower AI capabilities to many industries through smart clouds.

The settlement in Shunde Park after an 18-month inspection

The installation of 200,000 servers will become a powerful artificial intelligence infrastructure in the “AI+5G” era, supporting Baidu's applications in natural language processing, in-depth learning, image recognition, voice technology and big data. In terms of energy consumption efficiency, the average annual PUE of Baidu Cloud Computing Center is as low as 1.08, ranking the first in China and leading in the world, which has created a number of international and domestic champion records.

BaiduArtificial Intelligence Cloud Computing Project focuses on artificial intelligence (AI) to reduce IT costs for the large cluster of small and medium-sized enterprises in the Pearl River Delta, and provide a powerful incubation platform for provincial enterprises and individual entrepreneurs to effectively stimulate the vitality of industry innovation and cultivate at least a 10-billion-level cloud computing industry cluster in Guangdong, creating inestimable values to the entire IT industry.

It is introduced that the Baidu team has visited many cities, while the unique location conditions, impeccable industrial facilities and efficient government services of Shunde eventually attracted them to settle the project in Shunde after a 18-month negotiation and docking.

Zhang Dongchen, vice president of Baidu Group, said that the completion of the project will effectively promote the upgrade of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and South China's cloud computing industry, and facilitate the rapid development of enterprises and related industries in the upper, middle and lower reaches of the industrial chain. After the completion of the project, it will undoubtedly become a new local business card to attract more Internet companies to settle in Foshan. The settlement of the project will provide strong support for the development of high technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, autopilot, big data, edge computing and industrial Internet, and the industrial innovation incubation in Shunde and the surrounding areas.

Accelerate the layout of industrial Internet in Foshan High-tech Zone

“Today’s signing is a very big event for Shunde and Foshan, which coincides with the saying that planting a sycamore tree attracts a golden Phoenix,” Zhao Hai, Vice Mayor of Foshan, said. He also pointed out that with the major breakthroughs made in the transformation of village-level industrial parks in Shunde in the past two years, Baidu is the “golden Phoenix”. In the future, there will be broad space for the cooperation between Shunde and Foshan in the data center as well as intelligent transportation, intelligent medical care, industrial Internet and other fields.

Baidu Cloud Computing (Shunde) Center is located in Jun’an and Shunde Park of Foshan High-tech Zone respectively. Its settlement in Shunde Park of Foshan High-tech Zone not only reflected the good investment environment and supporting construction of the zone, but also showed the unique advantages of Shunde Park in connecting industrial Internet enterprises.

Since this year, Shunde has attracted a number of trillion-level projects, of which Baidu Cloud Computing (Shunde) Centerwas the sixth one. “Shunde has plenty of space, first-class policies and business environment, and the CPC committee, the government and the district will strive to serve Baidu efficiently,” Guo Wenhai said. Baidu, a global artificial intelligence giant that has gathered a large number of talents and numerous industrial projects, looks forward to establishing more cooperation space for two parties in the future.
