TheFAW-VOLKSWAGEN Foshan Plant Project was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission on May 31, 2011, and on July 22, 2011, the FAW-VOLKSWAGEN Automotive Co., Ltd, Foshan Branch was officially registered in the Nanhai District Industrial and Commercial Bureau. The Project, invested and operated by FAW-VOLKSWAGEN Automotive Co., Ltd. with about 18.118 billion yuan investment in the first phase, and the designed annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles per year; the investment of the second phase is about 15.885 billion yuan with the designed annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles per year, mainly produces the latest products of Volkswagen and Audi brands, and new energy vehicles with the latest technology. After completion, the first and second phases of the FAW-VOLKSWAGEN Foshan Plant will form a vehicle production base with an annual production capacity of 600,000 vehicles per year.

According toFAW-VOLKSWAGEN’s Strategic Development Plan for 2025, the Foshan Plant will take the lead in transforming and upgrading into a FAW-VOLKSWAGEN MEB platform of electric vehicle production base, and will also build a model factory for FAW-VOLKSWAGEN’s future electric vehicle strategy.

Officially started in July 2018 and scheduled to be completed and put into production in 2019, the MEB New Energy Electric Vehicle Project is expected to attract a total investment of 11.8 billion yuan, mainly producing Golf Electric Vehicles and Audi Q2 Electric Vehicles. From 2020 to 2022, the upgraded Foshan Plant will successively realize 4 MEB platform electric vehicles models. At the same time, a professional high-voltage battery pack manufacturing system corresponding to the MEB platform will also be completed and put into production at the Foshan base.
